PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh State men’s soccer team didn’t need overtime Saturday night.

The Cardinals (4-0), after winning two of their first three games in extra sessions, made short work of Bard College at the Plattsburgh State Field House Soccer Complex.

Fabian Chaparro, Nick Parrella, Tom Greene and Collin Illiano all scored in the first half as Plattsburgh rolled to a 4-0 non-conference victory.

“We did a good job coming out hard,” Plattsburgh coach Chris Waterbury said. “We knew going in that they (Bard) would be undermanned. Our starting corps did a good job finishing and getting on them right away. We wanted to be aggressive and not let them breathe.

“Sometimes it’s difficult to manage a game when you get out to a lead and you can get into bad habits. But we did a good job staying in our patterns.”

Chaparro opened the scoring when he scored on a rebound off Bard keeper Daniel Gagne at 10:12. Nick Parrella assisted.

Then, at 20:39, Wade Goehle crossed the ball into the box and Parrella headed it into the net for a 2-0 lead.

Less than three minutes later, at 23:00, Greene tallied on a rebound, with the assist going to Steve Zacharczyk.

Illiano closed out the scoring with 4:26 left in the half when he headed in Sean Murphy’s cross for his first Plattsburgh goal.

The Cardinals, who had 26 players get into the contest, finished with a 9-1 advantage in shots on goal, with John Toper (1) and Matt Bonomini (0) sharing time to make one save for the shutout.

“We got a lot of people in the game and it was nice to get everyone playing time,” Waterbury said. “It was a good team win. We tried to keep focused on certain things and moved the ball well.”

The Cardinals return to action on Wednesday with a 7 p.m. non-conference encounter at Castleton State.
