New campaign to target Adirondack economic woes

TUPPER LAKE — On Tuesday, an outdoor media event will launch a new campaign aimed to put a spotlight the economic decline of Adirondack communities, among them Tupper Lake, and advocate for solutions hoped to lead to a speedy economic recovery.

The awareness effort seeks to find ways to revitalize the regional economy, citing issues that include potential reductions to the local public employee workforce, a lack of private-sector job growth, a shrinking tax base, significant budget shortfalls, among them a $3 million gap in Town of Tupper Lake’s 2012 budget, and potential school closures, a press release said.

“The coalition of local Adirondack residents, business owners and community organizations are coming together to advance the simple but important concept that “The Park Works, When People Do,” it said.

The event is set for 10:30 a.m. in front of 83 Park Street in Tupper Lake (inside if it rains.)
