Villemaire leads Eagles; Carper helps PHS past Chazy

CHAZY — It didn’t take long for the Beekmantown girls’ soccer team to prove once again that its going to be a perennial power in the Northern Soccer League.

Kallie Villemaire scored just 54 seconds into the contest and the Eagles went on to blank Watertown’s Immaculate Heart 2-0 at the 3rd Annual Mary Latremore “Be The Match” Tournament in Chazy Friday.

Lindsey Gonyea added an insurance goal with 28:52 gone in the half.

“Kallie’s goal was off a nice thru ball from her sister, Kirstin,” Beekmantown coach Pete Bursik said. “Gonyea’s goal was off a rebound of a shot by Kallie.

“Our defense played extremely well. Alex Putnam, Brielle Carnright, Reagan Fesette and Courtney King did a great job.”

Beekmantown finished with a 15-8 advantage in shots and Lauren O’Connor made seven stops for the shutout. Skylar Short stopped 11 shots for IHC.

“Lauren came up with some nice saves to preserve the shutout,” Bursik said. “We played well in the first half. But give Immaculate Heart credit — they came out in the second half and kept putting pressure on us. They never quit.

“Their goalie, Skylar Short, came up with a couple of outstanding saves in the second half.”
