CLAYTON — The Plattsburgh High School boys’ hockey team continues to be strong from its goaltender on out.
Alex Maston and Jack Tolosky combined for five points on Friday as the Hornets remained unbeaten with a 3-0 victory over Hilton in the opening round of the Islanders Hockey Tournament.
The Hornets (5-0) will play St. Lawrence Central, a 5-4 winner of the Islanders, in the 2 p.m. title game today.

“The key is that we’re staying within ourselves and we’re getting good team efforts,” said PHS coach Jamie Reidy. “But, we’re in this for the long haul — we haven’t won anything yet.”
Maston, with Tolosky and Devin Clarke assisting, gave the Hornets a 1-0 lead in the first period and the scored stayed that way until Tolosky’s unassisted goal with 2:15 left in regulation make it 2-0.
“It was a good high school hockey game and it was closer than the score would indicate,” said Reidy. “Tolosky is a pure goal scorer and it showed when he stole the puck and scored to make it 2-0. That was a big goal for us.”
Maston then added his second goal of the contest, an empty-net marker, with 1:32 left to seal the deal. Tolosky and Eric Bechard picked up the assists.
Robby Knowles was strong in the PHS nets with 24 saves to earn the shutout.
“We played a solid game from Knowles on out,” said Reidy. “There was good flow to the game in the first and third periods, but too many penalties in the second. We also did a good job again keeping their shots to the outside.”
PHS finished with a 29-24 advantage in shots on goal.
