Open competition night for Airborne Modifieds

PLATTSBURGH — The only rule for the Ernie’s Tools DIRTcar Modifieds tonight at Airborne Speedway is that there are no rules.

The Modifieds will pay homage to their open-cockpit sprint car heritage with an assortment of aerodynamic adjustments, such as wings, big spoilers and sail panels and race without any motor or tire restrictions in the Run What Ya’ Brung feature.

The event is being co-sponsored by Island Excavating, Aaron’s Sales & Leasing, Haun Welding, UniFirst and Casella.

Current point leader and defending track champion Todd Stone, of Middlebury, Vt., was knocked out of contention early last week, but his three wins and nine top-five finishes have him 60 points ahead of his closest rivals, Leon Gonyo and Jessey Mueller.

The Limited Late Models, Sportsman Modifieds, Renegades and Mini Modifieds will also be in action. The Limited Late Model championship point battle remains tight, with Plattsburgh’s Robin Wood leading Mooers’ Jamy Begor by four points.

Post time is 6 p.m., with adult admission being $12. Children ages 12 and under are admitted free.
