PLATTSBURGH — Champlain Valley Educational Services has appointed an interim director of CV-TEC.
James R. McCartney III has stepped out of his position as principal of CV-TEC’s satellite campus to take on the temporary role.
He has worked in education for more than 25 years as an administrator, coordinator and teacher and was a driving force behind the creation of Plattsburgh Aeronautical Institute.
McCartney will serve as interim director through June 30, 2014.
A search for a permanent replacement for retired CV-TEC Director Dr. Barry Mack will kick off next month, according to a media release from CVES.
“The CVES Board of Education greatly appreciates Mr. McCartney’s willingness to serve in this leadership capacity for the remainder of the 2013-14 school year,” the release said.
“His knowledge of and support for CV-TEC’s many initiatives that are currently underway is a valuable asset to CVES and its 17 component school districts.”
Replacing McCartney as interim principal of the satellite campus through June 30, 2014, is retired Chateaugay Central School Superintendent Paul Harrica.
During his 36 years in education, Harrica has also served as a school business manager and high school principal.
He is on the Executive Committee of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association, according to the release, and is an active supporter of Section 10 athletics.
