Lions shut out Warriors in boys' NSL

ELIZABETHTOWN — Will Tomkins’ first-half goal put Elizabethtown-Lewis ahead to stay Friday afternoon in a 2-0 victory over Willsboro in Northern Soccer League boys’ soccer action.

Tomkins took a pass from sweeper Zac Noka-Bailey, beat a defender and put the ball in the net with 12:04 gone in the opening half.

The Lions (11-5), playing in their final regular season game, added their second goal on Austin Morris’ breakaway with just six second left in regulation.

Justin LaPier made six saves to record the shutout in net.

“It was a hard-fought game for both teams,” Elizabethtown-Lewis coach Paul Buehler said. “Willsboro got a good game from Seth Swires and Nick Arnold. We got an exceptional game defensively from Wesley Whalen, Cortland White, Trevor Brooks, Zac Noka-Bailey and Justin LaPier.”

PLATTSBURGH — The Division II-champion Eagles and the Knights played to their second overtime tie of the season.

Chazy finished with a 15-9 advantage in shots, with Keagan Briggs making 15 saves for Seton Catholic and Austin Gravelle nine stops for Chazy.

“Chazy had the better part of play in the first half,” Seton Catholic coach Mike Eppler said. “They outshot us 9-3 in the first half. Keagan Briggs made some nice saves in close, including one on Zach Brothers at the 23:00 mark.

“In the second half, most of the play was between the 18s. Shots were even in the second half as both teams’ defense stepped up. The same was true for overtime.”

The two teams played to an earlier 1-all tie in Chazy.
