CHAMPLAIN — A Quebec woman was charged Thursday with possession of a controlled substance after marijuana was allegedly found in her car at the border.

Maxime Aubuchone, 21, of Pierrefonds, Quebec told border officials at the Port of Champlain that she was headed to Philadelphia to visit her family, according to a new release from U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Upon inspection Border Patrol officers detected an odor of marijuana, the Department of Homeland Security said in the release.

A search of the vehicle uncovered two black garbage bags in the space tire well, the release said.

The bags contained several cleaning and disinfecting containers filled with 4.4 pounds of green leafy substance that tested positive for marijuana, the release said.

Aubuchone was charged with possession of a controlled substance and was turned over to the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department.
