Lake Placid 3, Ithaca 3

LAKE PLACID — Down 3-1 with 46 seconds gone in the third period, Lake Placid girls’ hockey coach Sandy Huber had enough.

Electing to move sophomore defenseman Payton Barney to a forward line, Huber’s Blue Bombers (6-2) rallied for a three-all tie with Ithaca.

“We were up 1-0, but after three unanswered goals, we were deflated,” Huber said. “That two-goal deficit was tough to come back from. Finally, we started to pick it up and showed some resiliency.”

After her switch from the blue line, Barney added two markers at 5:22 and 6:22 to tie the game before moving back to defenseman.

“We tried to make sure everyone kept working,” Huber said. “We were able to regain our confidence and generate momentum, but weren’t able to tally another goal in the end.”

Samantha Barney added two assists in the tie.

Freshman sensation Tanner Stanton fended off 17 of 20 shots in net for the Blue Bombers.

“(Stanton) came back from vacation sick and hasn’t practiced lately,” Huber said. “She battled through it (Friday) and did the best she could. Once we get her back healthy, she’ll be right back to normal.”

Lake Placid travels to Massena today for a non-league matchup.
