PLATTSBURGH — Governor Andrew Cuomo has signed a warrant that will legally enable a inmate at the Clinton County Jail to be extricated to Rhode Island on sex charges.

Joseph M. Castellani, 22, was arrested by Clinton County Sheriff’s deputies July 2 and has since appeared in Clinton County Court, according to the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department.

The warrant is for third-degree sexual assault, a felony.

Castellani fled to New York, knowing he was wanted by police in Rhode Island, the Sheriff’s Department said.

He is being held without bail in the Clinton County Jail and is awaiting transport to Rhode Island, the Sheriff’s Department said.

SARANAC LAKE — A Massachusetts man police were seeking in a drug sweep Aug. 28 turned himself in to police Friday.

Adam S. Bateman, 23, is charged with three counts of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, a felony, and three counts of fourth-degree conspiracy, a felony.

The Monson, Mass., man turned himself over the Saranac Lake Police after he learned they were looking for him, according to a news release from the Saranac Lake Police Department.

Bateman allegedly sold oxycodone and hydromorphone to a Saranac Lake Police informant on three separate occasions, police said in the release.

Bateman was arraigned and sent to Franklin County Jail in lieu of $15,000 cash or $30,000 bond.

CHAMPLAIN — A Champlain man was charged Thursday with felony drunken driving.

At about 7:30 p.m., troopers pulled over James M. Murphy, 28, on Route 9 in the Town of Champlain for speeding, according to a State Police news release.

After interviewing Murphy, police determined he was intoxicated and arrested him, according to the release.

His blood alcohol was found to be 0.12 percent, State Police said.

Murphy was charged with driving while intoxicated with a previous conviction in the past ten years, a felony; operating a motor vehicle with a blood-alcohol content of 0.08 or greater, a felony due to his previous conviction; first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, a felony; unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation; and speeding, a traffic infraction.

Murphy was released on an appearance ticket for Oct. 3 in Champlain Town Court.

SARANAC — A Saranac woman was injured after her vehicle struck a tour bus and went off the road, police said.

Shortly before 2:27 p.m., Debra M. Rine, 54, was driving a 2009 Subaru Forester southbound on Route 3 in the Town of Saranac when she “began seeing double” and crossed into the opposite lane of traffic, according to the State Police accident report.

Tour bus driver Heinz G. Laux, 70, of Quebec, Canada drove the bus as close as he could to the southeast shoulder of the road, police said.

Then Rine side-swiped the bus and lost control of her car, driving off the road via the south shoulder, police said.

Her vehicle overturned, according to the report.

Rine was taken to CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh after she complained of pain to her entire body, police said.

She was ticketed for moving from a lane unsafely.
