Justin Swan scores 14 of his 16 points in the second half to spark Moriah to a 49-46 victory over Tupper Lake.
Joe Akey, Andrew Cummings, Matt McCormick, Steve Soderberg, Diavalo Fletcher and Jason Remillard of Section VII are named First-Team selections in All-State football.
Malone’s Jake Warren is voted the outstanding wrestler while Beekmantown’s Tyler James spends the least time on the mat in the 35th Peru Wrestling Classic won by the host Indians with 273 points. Beekmantown is runnerup with 246.

Moriah’s Mike Trombley, Peru’s Chris Garrow and Sam Godfrey, and Saranac Lake’s Matt Bruce and Will Ellsworth are named to the All-State team in football.
Patrick Larkin, Jim VanArman and Jeremy Stone of Seton Catholic make the All-State team in cross country.
Tom Gale and Joe Facteau score two goals as Beekmantown beats Northeastern Clinton, 7-4, to snap a 47-game losing streak in hockey. Ryan Romanchuk, John Carter, Jarod Laurin also score for the Eagles.
Erin Pratt scores 25 points to lead Westport to a 49-38 win over Schroon Lake in a battle of unbeatens. Shannon Brock, the Wildcats’ top scorer, gets in foul trouble early.
Malone’s Chad Lane clears 13 feet to set a school record in the pole vault.
25 YEARS AGO (1989)
Seventh-grader Dave Rabideau (91 pounds), Travis McLennon (105) and Guy Peryea (155) win their weight classes to lead Beekmantown to the Ravena Invitational wrestling crown.
Jon Rushford scores 33 points and David Lapoint, 24, to lead NAC to a 77-61 win over Beekmantown in a battle of undefeateds. Scott Aguglia nets 18 for the Eagles.
Julie Moore scores 27 points in Westport’s 60-39 victory over Schroon Lake. Nicole Westover chips in with 14 while Kim Beck nets 11 for the Wildcats.
Ned Strong’s 27-point effort and the all-round play of Kyle Beattie spur AuSable Valley to an 82-51 win over previously unbeaten NAC. Keith Darrah adds 14 points and 17 rebounds.

Marty Snow makes 2 free throws with 13 seconds left as unbeaten AuSable Valley posts with a 52-48 win over previously unbeaten Saranac.
Neil Fesette puts together back-to-back games of 33 and 39 points to lead St. John’s to victories over NAC and Moriah.
Remy Bessey scores 31 points and Chris Speziali, 20, to lead Schroon Lake to a 104-71 win over Dannemora in a meeting of unbeatens. Chris LaRose leads the Knights with 25.
Keith and Pete Sullivan combine for 4 goals and 3 assists as PHS rallies from a 5-0 deficit to tie Potsdam 5-5.
Terri Nelson and Beccy Prim spark Beekmantown to a comeback from 17 points down to a 51-48 win over Saranac.
Sophomore Steve Plaskon, who leads Plattsburgh State with 10 goals and 23 assists, leaves school to play junior hockey in Waterloo, Iowa.

Gary Rock, 21, of Morrisonville, finishes third in Class IV Modified at the Sixth Annual New York State Snowmobile Grand Prix in Brewerton.
Mike Wood scores 28 points and Bill Weaver grabs 20 rebounds as Dannemora knocks off previously unbeaten Westport, 84-82, in overtime. Jim Kirkby nets 23 for Westport.
Dick Bezio is a triple winner while Dave Bennage, George Hammond and Mike McCormick each take two firsts in AuSable Valley’s 99-72 swim win over Hudson Falls.
NAC’s Joe Damour is the first three-time tourney champ as the Bobcats edge Malone by 1½ points to win their own wrestling tournament. Dave Daniels of
Beekmantown and AuSable Valley’s Doug Robare are repeat winners.
50 YEARS AGO (1964)
Plattsburgh’s Mike Raymaley, 16, a student at Northwood School, wins the Class I boys title at the Northeastern Junior Giant Slalom Championships at Killington.
Paul Demers nets 23 and Steve Lorry, 21, to lift MAI to a 69-59 win over previously unbeaten St. John’s. Dennis Trudell and John Ferriter get 15 each for the Irish.
Jerry LaRose fires in 46 points as Dannemora drubs Lyon Mountain 107-35.
Bob Jansau scores 25 points to lead St. Mary’s of Champlain to a 78-51 win over Chazy. Jerry Butler scores20 for the Eagles.

Jim Sears, Doug Mehne and John Longware combine for 61 points as Plattsburgh State Teachers College beats Potsdam, 72-67, for its sixth win in a row.
Bill Badger scores 35 points in Dannemora’s 65-57 win over St. John’s Academy.
Buzzy Bezio nets 27 for MAI in a 65-42 win over Dannemora.
Gary Finney’s basket in overtime lifts PHS to a 57-56 victory over OLVA.
Don Ashlaw scores 22 points to lead St. Joseph’s of Malone past Rouses Point, 58-46. Dick Batchelder scores 23 points in a losing cause.
70 YEARS AGO (1944)
MAI, coached by Brother Peter, prepares for the hockey season. George “Buck” O’Connell and Gerald Moreau return on defense with Lionel Jolly and M. LaGoy the veteran forwards. Melvin Frechette, William O’Brien, Peter Gload and Lucien Bernard also are on the team.
Bob Brooks, Ed Layhee, Stan Rushford and Sonny Aubrey are on the Dannemora town team. Dan Fitzgerald, of Elizabethtown, is added to play center.
The Plattsburgh Figure Skating Club re-organizes under the leadership of Patricia Manning and John Ladue. Former president Ruth Robinson left to join the Women’s Army Corps in the spring.
