SARANAC LAKE — Police have arrested two adults allegedly involved in a domestic dispute with children present.
Saranac Lake Police Chief Bruce Nason said a phone call came in about 2 a.m. Friday, dispatching police to Woodruff Street, where Nicole M. Buckley and Louis Reuter shared a residence.
Buckley, 40, was charged with second-degree attempted assault, a felony, for allegedly stabbing Reuter in the hand with a kitchen knife, the chief said.
“She cut Mr. Reuter. He received a minor laceration to his hand that did not require medical attention,” the chief said.
“Reuter was alleged to have had a physical altercation with (Buckley) and caused injury,” police said in a subsequent news release that did not specify what kind of injury.
Reuter, 52, was charged third-degree assault, a misdemeanor.
Two minor children were at the residence when the domestic assault happened, Nason said.
Along with the felony, Buckley was charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, both misdemeanors.
Reuter was also charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
“Somebody else in the house called when this domestic dispute was going on,” the police chief said.
“It was reported as a physical domestic dispute. The children were not removed to anyone else’s custody. They are Buckley’s children,” Nason said.
Buckley was processed at the Saranac Lake Police Station, arraigned in Village Court and then released on $1,000 cash bail.
Reuter was processed and arraigned in Village Court, then released under supervision of the Probation Department.
Orders of protection were issued for both Buckley and Reuter, requiring them to stay away from each other, Nason said.
Both are due in court at a later date.
Reuter is known publicly as a sports writer and photographer for local newspapers.
