Wesley LaBar pitched six innings for the win, fanning eight, walking six and hitting one.

“It was a very well played game,” Crown Point coach Randy Pertak said. “There were outstanding defensive plays in the game by both teams. Jon Spaulding in the fifth inning robbed (Minerva/Newcomb’s) Austin Williams of a home run. He caught the ball and ran through the home-run fence.”

Pertak added that Minerva/Newcomb’s Galusha and Ruzbacki also made excellent defensive plays.

Williams, Jorge Bertomeau and Justin Viele all had singles for the Mountaineers — their only three hits.

Jaice Spring went the distance for Crown Point with 10 strikeouts, three walks and three hit batters.

The Panthers left eight runners on base in the game.

The defeat marked Crown Point’s first loss in MVAC play.
