Safety-seat check set for today

KEESEVILLE — The Essex County Sheriff’s Department is holding a child safety-seat check from noon to 4 p.m. today at the Elks Lodge, 1 Elks Lane.

The Child Passenger Safety Program is sponsored by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee. For more information, call the Essex County Traffic Safety Office at 873-3630.

Mooers Free Library offering summer programs

MOOERS — Mooers Free Library will be participating in the Summer Food Program as well as a Summer Reading Program.

Meals, as snacks, will be provided to all children 18 years and under without charge. Acceptance and participation requirements for the program and all activities are the same for all regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.

Summer meals will be served at 2:40 p.m. Tuesdays and at 6:40 p.m. Wednesdays at the library, 2430 Route 11.

As well, the library will kick off its Summer Reading Program from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 2.

Sessions will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays.

This year’s focus will be on gardening and digging to align with the theme of “Dig-Into-Reading.” Attendees will be able to grow a potted herb garden, which they can take home with them to use this winter.

Fourth-annual Civil War Camp scheduled

PLATTSBURGH — Clinton County Historical Association will host the fourth year of Matthew Hewson’s Civil War Youth Camp.

The camp at the Clinton County Historical Museum focuses on the daily lives of Civil War soldiers, with hands-on immersion in which campers experience the process of becoming a soldier by enlisting in the Union Army and filling out the appropriate paperwork.
