PSU softball team ends trip with split

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Plattsburgh State softball team wrapped up its final day at the National Training Center Spring Games with a split against William Paterson and the Wisconsin-Whitewater. The Cardinals finished their spring trip with a 7-5 record.

“I think playing competitive teams early on and the type of games we played is only going to make us more prepared for conference play,” Plattsburgh coach Stephanie Zweig said.

The Cardinals scored 10 runs on 14 hits to run-rule William Paterson in Friday’s first game. Plattsburgh enjoyed a nice day at the plate in the six-inning game as Brianna Clarke went 2-for-3 with three RBI, including a two-run home run. Kristine Gay went 3-for-3 and also contributed two RBI.

Brittany Marshall had two hits and an RBI, and Sam Capobianco added an RBI single. Megan Price and Michelle Iannone chipped in two hits apiece.

Sam Moss earned the win, allowing two runs on three hits in 5 1/3 innings. Moss walked one and had one strikeout. Ashley Marshall came on in relief to record the final two outs in the victory.

“We did really well. We were excited to come back after (Thursday),” Zweig said, referring to the Cardinals’ two shutout losses the day before. “They were a tough team, but we took charge right away. And Sam Moss did really well for us.”
