PLATTSBURGH — Bus fares for seniors will be reduced for the Clinton County Public Transit system, but not free.

The changes, which begin Sunday, include reduced fares for city and rural routes, both regular and paratransit routes.

Prices for shuttles will remain the same, as will prices for tokens and city and rural transfers.

People age 60 and older can get a free pass, which will enable them to receive the reduced senior rates, at the Office for the Aging at 135 Margaret St.

Seniors can also purchase a commuter pass for $20 at the Planning Office also at 135 Margaret St., which can be used to pay for bus rides. Commuter passes are expected to last longer because of the reduced rates.

Under the new plan for seniors:

  City routes will go from $1 to 50 cents.

  Rural routes will drop from $2 to $1.

  Shuttles will remain at 50 cents.

  The Seton Express will remain at 50 cents.

  City paratransit (disability availability) routes will go from $2 to $1.

  Rural paratransit routes will drop from $3.50 to $1.50.

  Tokens will remain at $1.

  Transfers to city routes will remain at 50 cents.

  Transfers to rural routes will remain at $1.50.
