KEESEVILLE -- A Keeseville man has been charged with attacking a sheriff's deputy who was trying to arrest him.
The Clinton County Sheriff's Department sent Deputy Nicholas J. Leon to a domestic-violence incident in Keeseville Thursday, with State Police also en route.
During the investigation, Wayne J. Jiguere Jr., 36, allegedly pushed Leon.
When the deputy attempted to take him into custody, Jiguere grabbed Leon's radio and choked and punched him, according to the Sheriff's Department.
Jiguere also tried to hit Leon in the face with a glass coffee pot, the Sheriff's Department said.
Leon was able to fight Jiguere off and call State Police to have them get officers there fast.
The deputy forced Jiguere to the ground and used pepper spray to subdue him, the Sheriff's Department said.
Jiguere was charged with attempted assault on a police officer, a felony, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and resisting arrest, both misdemeanors.
He was arraigned in AuSable Town Court and sent to Clinton County Jail on $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond.
He was still in jail Friday.
