Local fast-pitch softball team in action
MORRISONVILLE — The local Northern Devils U-14 fast-pitch softball team will host the Adirondack Chill on Sunday in a 4 p.m. doubleheader at the Morrisonville Town Hall Field.
The Devils, who ended up with a 3-2 record at last weekend's New York State Tournament, are 9-4 overall this season and the two contests on Sunday are their first home games of the campaign.
Team Helm wins hoop tourney
PLATTSBURGH — Team Helm won the Six-Foot and Under CYO Fundraiser Tournament last weekend over Team Reif by a score of 80-52. Mike Martin led the winners with 22 points, followed by Nate Bilow and Jerrad Dumont each with 20 and Jason LaPlant with 12. Team Reif was led by Nick O'Meara with 19, including five three-pointers, Matt Williams with 13, and Joey Reif with 11.
In semifinal action, Team Reif knocked off Team Russell, 80-65. Williams led the winners with 25 points, Steve Thomas added 22, and Corey Lewis chipped in with 20. For Russell's, Andrew Finney led with 22, Sean Burke had 19, and Dan Chilton 13. Reif earned a semifinal spot with wins over Russell, Menton and Donahue, while losing a close one to Helm, 54-50. Russell earned a semifinal spot with wins over Preve and Menton.
In the other semifinal, Team Helm defeated Team Williams, 72-40. Dumont was point leader for the winners with 31, followed by Bilow with 15 and LaPlant with 11. Team Williams was led by Rick McCann with 23 points, including six three-pointers, while Brian D'Aust added 12 and Dan Marlbut, 11. Helm won top seed in the semifinals with wins over Reif, Russell, and Williams. Williams earned a spot in the semifinals with wins over Preve and Donahue. Sean Burke won the three-point shooting contest, with 36 points in 30 seconds. Burke won a tie-breaker over Mike Beach as he and Beach both scored 27 points in 30 seconds in the opening round.
NAC Booster Club to hold soccer clinic
ELLENBURG — The Northern Adirondack Central School Bobcat Booster Club will sponsor its' annual soccer clinic on August 3-7 from 6-8 p.m. on the NAC soccer fields.
Registration forms will be available this week at both the high school and elementary offices or by contacting Dean Lashway, at 236-5850, or Mary Trudo, at 236-6918. The clinic is available to all district students entering grades 4-6 or modified and junior varsity players. Advance registration and payment is preferred no later than Monday, July 20.
