Parents face charges related to fatal crash

FORT EDWARD (AP) -- The parents of an upstate New York teenager charged with second-degree murder in a car crash that killed two girls are accused of allowing the teens to drink alcohol at their home the night of the crash.

Jimmy Joe St. Andrews, 41, and his wife, Kellie St. Andrews, 39, were each indicted on misdemeanor counts related to charges that they allowed underage teens to drink at their home in Washington County. They pleaded not guilty during a Friday afternoon arraignment and were released.

Police say Dustin St. Andrews, 16, of Putnam was driving 132 mph when he crashed his car in the eastern Adirondacks in April. Two of his passengers -- Shannon James, 16, of Ticonderoga and Michaella Lopes, 16, of Enosburg Falls, Vt. -- were killed.

Dustin pleaded not guilty June 14 to 23 charges, including second-degree murder, vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, driving while intoxicated and driving under the influence of drugs. He was released after payment of the bail, set at $15,000 cash or $30,000 bail bond.

The indictment said Dustin had allegedly taken the car from a family member without permission and lost control heading north on Route 22 at 2:15 a.m. His blood-alcohol level was 0.12 percent, 0.04 percent above the state's legal limit.

Dustin was driving the carload of teenagers back to Ticonderoga from a family-hosted party in Putnam.
