Councilor appreciative

TO THE EDITOR: I would like to extend a big “thank you” to all who the people in Peru who voted for me at the last election.

I’m truly honored that you have supported me for the next four years.

I take my position as Peru councilman very seriously and will do my utmost to keep Peru on a desired successful path for the future. My decisions are based on what is best for whole Town of Peru long term.

Be assured that I am always available, to Peru residents, by phone, email or just by chance meeting on the street. I need and value your input. Thanks again.

Respecting pledge

TO THE EDITOR: I am a student at Plattsburgh High School, and, foremost, I’m an American.

It’s because of our founding principles that we have a public school.

It frustrates me, during the announcements at Plattsburgh High School, how many kids will talk during the Pledge of Allegiance. I will never understand why they would do this.

It seems like it’s more important talking about what you got at the mall the other day than respecting your country. I don’t know why my peers think it’s OK to do this.

I was expecting a little more courtesy being taught to them. I have a feeling most of the parents don’t teach them that at home or the teachers in school.

Firefighters appreciated

TO THE EDITOR: The members of the North Country Cancer Fund would like to extend our gratitude to the Plattsburgh City Firefighters for their generosity.

The firefighters have donated all proceeds from the sale of their “Fighting For a Cure” t-shirts, which exceeds $1,000. You are all truly angels.

100% of this donation will be used to assist North Country residents. So far this year, the North Country Cancer Fund has assisted at least 70 families through their difficult time.

We also appreciate the support that many of you and businesses have shown at our fund-raising events.

Remember military

TO THE EDITOR: As we prepare for our holidays, however, we call them, we must not forget our military men and women serving their country.

Whether they are near or in far-away foreign lands, we must remember all of them. As we celebrate our holidays maybe we can “thank” them in a toast or maybe in a prayer or a moment when we sit down for our holiday meal. Their sacrifice and others before them for God and country must always be remembered by all Americans.

We hope they all come home safe and in the arms of family, friends and the American people.

May God bless our troops. I am a proud veteran.
