Leon B. Forkey

PLATTSBURGH — Mr. Leon B. Forkey, 87, of Weed Street, Plattsburgh, N.Y., passed away Nov. 1, 2009, at Meadowbrook Health Care Facility, Plattsburgh, N.Y. He was born in Mooers, N.Y., on July 8, 1922, the son of Alex and Eva (Riel) Forkey.

Leon graduated from Mount Assumption Institute in Plattsburgh, class of 1941. He then served in the U.S. Army during World War II in India. After returning from the war, he worked for many years for the City of Plattsburgh at the Water Pollution Control Plant. Leon enjoyed watching and playing hockey in his younger years. He was an avid Plattsburgh State hockey fan and would regularly attend games with his brother, Homer.

Leon was predeceased by his parents; five sisters, Mildred, Yvonne, Evelyn, Irene and Lorraine; and a brother, Homer Forkey.

He is survived by a sister, Shirley Marquis, and her husband, William of Plattsburgh; seven nieces and nephews, Donald Rabideau and his wife, Norma of Dallas, Ga., Geraldine Knowles and her husband, Richard of Plattsburgh, Sandy McCarthy and her husband, Dennis of Plattsburgh, Judy Walker and her husband, Russell of Burlington, Vt., and Tina Trombley and her husband, Lynn of West Chazy, Cheryl Marquis of Readsboro, Vt., and Steve Wilson of Plattsburgh.

Calling hours will be Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St., Plattsburgh, N.Y.

A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. William Reamer, chaplain at CVPH Medical Center, officiating.

Interment will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery.
