PLATTSBURGH — MINEVILLE — Bernard "Smock" J. Podres, 81, of Mineville, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at the Community Hospital in Elizabethtown, N.Y.

He was born Dec. 2, 1931, in Witherbee, N.Y., the son of Barney and Anna (Tartaras) Podres.

Smock was a veteran of the Korean War. He was Commander of the Mineville VFW Post 5802, a member of the American Legion Post 14, a member of the Elks 1494, and past board member of the Moriah Country Club. He was a basketball and football official for many years. He was an avid golfer, fisherman and bowler.

He is survived by his loving wife, Joanne Podres; and three sons, Ronnie and Holly Mitchell, David and Brande Mitchell and Michael and Dee Mitchell; also several grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Jan 14, at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at All Saints Church in Mineville, with Rev. Al Hauser officiating.
