LARGO, Fla. — Genevieve (Sussdorff) Whitney, 90 of Largo, Fla., died Friday, June 28, 2013, at Carrington Place Nursing Home in St. Petersburg, Fla.
She was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y. in 1923. She lived early life in Keeseville and Port Kent, N.Y., graduating from Keeseville Central School in 1941.
She married Harold W. Whitney upon his three year return from Europe from WWII. They married in Deerfield, Mass. on Feb. 4, 1946.
She was employed by G.E. at the main plant in Schenectady, N.Y. She also lived in Flint, Mich. and moved with husband and daughter to Pinellas Park, Fla. in 1959. She was employed by BCC Pinellas County Government for 20 years, retiring as an accountant for the Accounting Department of Clearwater, Fla. County Courthouse in 1980.
She was a member of the St. Petersburg Garden Club, TOPS of Pinellas Park and the Clearwater Unitarian Church. She maintained an English garden at her residence in Pinellas Park. She was a gourmet cook, needleworker, and a local artist of many oil paintings. She was also a homemaker and devoted to her family.
She was predeceased by her husband; parents, William H. Sussdorff Jr. and Marion Gardner Sussdorff; her brother, William H. Sussdorff III.
Survivors include a sister Clare J. Sager of South Berwick, Maine; and a daughter, Barbara A. "Bonnie" Close of Largo/ Pinellas Park, Fla.; a granddaughter, Andrea L. Lewis/Appel; son-in-law, Andrew J. Appel; and four great-grandchildren. Arrangements were made by Moss Feaster Funeral Home and Cremation, Indian Rocks Road, Largo, Fla. There will be a Graveside Service at the family cemetery in Port Kent N.Y. at a convenient date.
