---- — PLATTSBURGH — Mr. Gary J. Matt Sr., 61, of Plattsburgh, passed away, Oct. 18, 2013, at the CVPH Medical Center.
He was born in Utica, N.Y., on Oct. 23, 1951, the son of the late John and Virginia (Haley) Matt.
Gary had a love for hunting and fishing. He loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Gary's interests included car shows, NHRA Drag Races, and NYS Firematics. To Gary it was mopar or no car. Gary was the assistant chief engineer for the Deerfield Volunteer Fire Department before moving to Plattsburgh.
Gary is survived by his wife Dolores; his children, Patricia Otis and her husband Jeffrey of West Winfield, N.Y., Gary Matt Jr. and his wife Katherine of Utica, Sean of Yorkville, N.Y.; and his nine grandchildren; brothers and their spouses, John Matt Jr. and his wife Maureen of Marcy, N.Y., Robert and Lucile Matt of New Hartford, N.Y., James and Rosemary Matt of New Hartford, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A service will follow in the Brown Funeral Home Chapel. A memorial luncheon and celebration of Gary's life will be held Oct. 27 at 2 p.m. at the Deerfield Fire Dept. on the Trenton Rd. in Deerfield, N.Y.
