William Claude Whittemore

CROWN POINT — Mr. William Claude Whittemore, also known by his family as "Billy", 65, of Ferry Road, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, at Fletcher Allen Health Care.

He was born in Ticonderoga, N.Y., on Nov. 6, 1947, to Donald and Lula Mae Whittemore. He grew up as a child on Buck Mountain in Crown Point, N.Y., with his grandparents and later moved to Danbury, Conn., before returning later in life to the Adirondacks.

Bill was known for his sense of humor; being a listener of country music especially Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash; watching parades; and being the heart of barbeques and parties with family and friends. He enjoyed spending time with his brother, Trustan, going fishing and reminiscing about their childhood. He particularly liked to be involved with the local volunteer fire department where he was inducted as an Honorary Member.

He was predeceased by his grandparents, Claude and Della Whittemore; parents, Donald and Lula Mae Whittemore; Sister, Della Louise Whittemore; Uncles, Sherman Whittemore and Charlie Whittemore; and Aunts, Francis Christian, Marion Lee, Helen Dushane and Joyce Barnaby.

He is survived by his Brother and Sister-In-Law, Trustan and Gail Whittemore; Aunt, Ruth Whittemore; Uncle, Gerbert Barnaby; and Nieces, Robin, Lucy and Valerie Dufault.

Friends and relatives are invited to call from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, at Harland Funeral Home, Port Henry.

Family would like to express their appreciation to all of the staff and physicians at Moses Ludington Hospital.

There will be a funeral service beginning at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, at the First Baptist Church, Ticonderoga, and the burial will be at the family plot at the Ironville Cemetary, Ironville, N.Y., beside his sister, Louise.

Memorial contributions can be sent to the Ticonderoga Volunteer Fire Department.
