KEESEVILLE — Merilda E. Gumlaw, 96, of Keeseville, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2013 at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, surrounded with the love and comfort of her family beside her.
Merilda was born in Keeseville, Sept. 10, 1917, the daughter of Frank and Rose (Blaise) Champagne.
Family and friends were Merildas passion and delight. She was a devoted wife, Mother and Grandmother that dedicated her life to others. Her love, values, and happiness were shined upon everyone she met and knew. She was a strong willed woman that left a lasting impression you would always remember and a smile that would capture your heart.
Merilda was a lifelong resident of Keeseville. She attended the local Keeseville School. She spent many years working at the Prescotts Radio Shop in Keeseville. She enjoyed so many things in her lifetime. The good company of family and friends being her most favorite. She also enjoyed going to church, bingo, and shopping. With a lifetime that spanned almost a century, the memories, events, and enjoyment of life is something very few could describe or imagine.
Survivors include her children, Nancy Gumlaw of Keeseville, Barbara Trombley and her husband Stanley of Keeseville, Margaret Sousie of Troy, Francis Gumlaw and his wife Patricia of Troy, Carol Blaise and her husband Gary of Keeseville, Mary "Pet" Hart and her husband Augustine of Keeseville, Linda McLean and her husband Robert of Harkness; and Shawn Gumlaw a grandson she also helped raise. She also leaves behind many more grandchildren, family, and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband, James Gumlaw; children, Betty Hilborne, Bruce Gumlaw, and Robert Bummer Gumlaw.
Calling hours will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at St. John's Church in Keeseville. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11 a.m. at St. John's Church, with Monsignor Leeward J. Poissant, parish pastor, celebrating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
