Joseph "Floyd" Sears

PLATTSBURGH — Mr. Joseph "Floyd" Sears, 80, of the Moffitt Road, Plattsburgh, NY., died peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 28, at CVPH Skilled Nursing Care, Plattsburgh.

Floyd was born Feb. 27, 1933, the son of Leo and Dora (Phaneuf) Sears.

Floyd attended a one room school house, Woodruff Pond School on Route 9 in Plattsburgh and St. Peter's School, Plattsburgh.

Floyd will be greatly miss as "Wheeler" at the morning coffee shop, having a good time with his friends, singing, visiting, having a good sense of humor, helping people and attending the services at St. Peter's Church.

Floyd and his father managed one of the largest dairy farms in Clinton County on the Moffitt Road up until the mid 70's. Later in life Floyd owned and operated a small construction company for many years and also developed a housing project on the Moffitt Road, "Sears Blvd". He also worked in local cemeteries, including Mt. Carmel Cemetery under the direction of Msgr. Morris Dwyer.

He is predeceased by his parents, Leo and Dora Sears; and a brother, Wilfred "Willy" Sears; and brother-in-law, George Cote, Ernest Deyo and John Manor.

Floyd is survived by his sisters Valida Cote and her companion David Rivers of West Chazy and Punta Gorda, Fla., Marie "Mae" Manor and Annette Deyo, both of Beekmantown; and a brother Eugene Sears and his wife Bonnie of Plattsburgh. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

At Floyd's request, there will be no public calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 4, at St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to St. Peter's building fund, Plattsburgh in Floyd's name.

At his request, he will be cremated with a special request to celebrate his life with lunch in the Emmaus Room, immediately following the memorial service. Burial will take place at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Plattsburgh. Arrangements are entrusted to Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad Street, Plattsburgh, NY 12901 (518) 561-3980.
