---- — AU SABLE FORKS — Leota June Perkins, 85, of Au Sable Forks, N.Y. died on Sept. 1, 2013, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, N.Y., surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on Arnold Hill on June 25, 1928, daughter of Aura Ruth French. Leota was raised by her mother and step father Frank Joe Nelson.
She attended Au Sable Forks High School. She was employed at Au Sable Chasm Co. For many years she was the gift shop manager at High Falls Gorge and finally was employed at Feek Pharmacy until her retirement.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Richard "Dick" Perkins and her mother and stepfather Aura and Frank Joe Nelson.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Deanna and John Santor of Au Sable Forks, Linda and Jim Spear of Keeseville; her sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Judy Perkins of Clayburg and Jody and Michelle Perkins of Au Sable Forks; her granddaughters, Sherry (Marty) Snow of Keeseville, Kristi Provost and companion, Kevin Carter of Plattsburgh, Monica (Mike) Thomas of Au Sable Forks, Marla (Chad) Garcia of Au Sable Forks, Heather (Patrick) Gallaher of Calif; her grandsons, John (Susan) Santor of Ariz., Gene Santor and his companion Mackenize Bola of Au Sable Forks, Sean (Kayla) Perkins of Albany. Great-grandchildren Logan and Sidney Snow of Keeseville, Sierra, Gabrielle, Isabelle and Diego Santor of Ariz. Jaimee and Nick Provost of Plattsburgh, Ryan and Jack (her big helper) Thomas of Au Sable Forks, Carson and Luke Garcia of Au Sable Forks, Brody Gallaher of Calif. and soon to arrive, Raelyn Perkins of Albany. Her brother-in-law, Pete Perkins of Clintonville; her sister-in-law Millie Bombard of Plattsburgh. Several nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends along with her faithful canine companion, Gracie June.
Leota was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother. Her family was the center of her life. Her greatest joy was family gatherings. She will be very sadly missed by her family and friends.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5, at the Thwaits-Zaumetzer Funeral Home in Au Sable Forks. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 6, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Au Sable Forks.
