NORWICH, CONN. — Donald A. Hart, age 90, of Norwich, formerly of Keeseville, N.Y., passed away peacefully at his home on August 19, 2013, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. He was born on May 5, 1923, in AuSable Forks, N.Y., to the late Alexander and Lila (Duel) Hart. He was married to the late Loretta (Bleau) Hart for more than 50 years.
Donald worked as a cabinetmaker for many years at Prescott's in Keeseville and Helikon in Norwich. He also worked as a welder at Electric Boat and retired from the SEAT bus company. He loved music and could play several instruments. He enjoyed fishing boating, gardening and his dogs. He spent much of his later life at Pachaug Lake with his family.
He is survived by his sons, James Hart of Frederick, Md., Thomas Hart of Naugatuck, and Bruce Hart of Canterbury; daughters, Charlotte Apperson of Canterbury, Starlene Makara of Scotland, and Sally Thornton of Canterbury. He also leaves behind a brother, Robert Hart of Essex, Vt.; sister, Catherine Cook of Washington; 14 grandchildren, 27 great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by a son, Gary A. Hart; brother, Bernard Hart; sister, Marion (Hart) Bleau; and grandson, David Makara.
Family and friends may visit from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. tonight at Labenski Funeral Home, 107 Boswell Ave., Norwich, CT.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, at St. Mary Church in Norwich. Burial will immediately follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
