George Robert Besson

---- — TICONDEROGA — George Robert Besson, 85, of Ticonderoga, died on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at his residence.

Born in Farmington, Maine, Feb. 13, 1928, he was the son of the late Alexander F. and Mamie (Bectel) Besson.

Mr. Besson was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during WW II.

He was a graduate of Mt. Blue High School in Farmington, Maine and the University of Maine at Orono.

George married Patricia Ann Long on July 3, 1956. They then moved to Ticonderoga, where they raised five children.

He was employed by the International Paper Company of Ticonderoga as a Chemical Engineer for 42 years and was a member of the Company's Quarter Century Club. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Ticonderoga.

George was an avid Boston Red Sox and Washington Redskins fan. He also enjoyed gardening.

He was pre-deceased by his wife, Patricia Ann Besson on March 14, 2005.

Survivors include three sons, Alec John Besson and his wife Cheryl of Phoenix, Ariz., Peter William Dean Besson and his wife Paula of Ticonderoga, and Francis Blaine Besson of Delray Beach, Fla.; two daughters, Margaret Alice McCollum and her husband William of Delray Beach, Fla., and Tresha Mary Montbriand and her husband Russell of Ticonderoga. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Christa Morse, Jennifer Morse, Renee McCollum, John Besson, Alec Besson, Christopher Besson, Anna Besson, Mathew Montbriand and Josiah Besson; and five great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga. A funeral service will follow at 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

The Rite of Committal will take place at the family plot of St. Mary's Parish Cemetery of Ticonderoga at a later date.
