Leo E. Chamberlain

PERU — Leo E. Chamberlain, 81, formerly of the Bear Swamp Road, died Friday, May 3, 2013, at Meadowbrook Healthcare in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Plattsburgh, June 5, 1931, the son of the late Francis and Marie (White) Chamberlain.

Leo enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served during the Korean Conflict, and was honorably discharged, March 26, 1954. He married Lydia A. Hebert, Nov. 6, 1954, at St. Augustine's Church in Peru. Lydia predeceased him, Oct. 2, 1998. Until Lydia's passing in 1998, they were communicants of St. Augustine's Church in Peru for many years.

Leo worked construction and was a member of the local Teamsters Union for 27 years. He drove a truck for the Town of Peru Highway Dept. for ten years. Leo was a gentlman farmer for 20 years, milking a few cows, and raising and selling pigs. He enjoyed gardening and farming, and sold vegetables on their small family farm in Peru, but his true love in life, was his family.

Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Ann Marie Hay of Plattsburgh, and Mary Margaret Chamberlain and her companion, Stephen Law of Keeseville; two sons and one daughter-in-law, David and Sharon Chamberlain of Morrisonville, and Francis Chip Chamberlain of Winooski, Vt.; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Marie Hay of Peru; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Joyce and Clarence Bruno Jr. of Hudson Falls, and Judy and Philip Gromer of Carmel; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, and wife, Leo was predeceased by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Agnes Chamberlain, and Donald and Janet Chamberlain.

Calling hours will be held from 9 to 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 7, at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A Mass of Christian burial will be follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Augustine's Church in Peru with Rev. Alan D. Shnob, parish Pastor, celebrating. Committal prayers and military honors will follow in the parish cemetery.
