PLATTSBURGH — Elsie L. Chase, 92, of the Military Turnpike, Plattsburgh, died Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at the Evergreen Valley Nursing Home in Plattsburgh.
She was born in Saranac Lake, June 3, 1921, the daughter of Arnold and Ettie (Sheldon) McKee.
Elsie graduated from Lake Placid High School. She was very fond of her childhood home in Wilmington, and its view of Whiteface Mountain. She enjoyed visiting there often. During World War II she worked in a parachute factory in Hartford, Conn. She later received training as a nurse at Champlain Valley Hospital, and went on to work at what is now the CVPH Medical Center.
Elsie loved working outdoors on her flowers, and in her garden. She would feed birds from her back porch, even feeding chickadees from her hand. Always the nurse, she would take in injured birds and care for them. She will be remembered most for her compassion, and dedication to her family.
Survivors include her sons, Lawrence Chase and Douglas Chase; daughter-in-law, Kathyrn Chase; grandson, Chad Chase; granddaughter, Nichole (Chase) Sanchez and her husband Gustavo Sanchez; great-granddaughter, Sofia Marcela Sanchez; and her nieces and nephews.
