Joseph Medwick

SARANAC LAKE — Joseph Medwick, age 64, of 28 Cedar Street, Saranac Lake, died Saturday, June 08, 2013, following a courageous and short battle with renal cell carcinoma. Born in Yonkers, N.Y., on Jan. 08, 1949, he was the son of Joseph and Eleanor (Kellman) Medwick. Joe met Joanne Wojcik in 1970 and they were married on Dec. 24, 1973, by his uncle Ed Kellman of Spring Valley, N.Y.

Joe had been employed by the New York State Department of Corrections as a correctional officer for 34 ^ years until his retirement August 16, 2006. After his retirement he worked as a bus driver for First Student Bus Company delivering his precious cargo to Childrens Corner. Joe was an avid fisherman and he especially loved fishing with his brother Rich.

He is survived by his wife Joanne; one son, Joseph J. and his companion Scott Bushey of Saranac Lake; two brothers, Richard and his companion Kate Griffey and Edward all of Fishkill; sister-in-law, Deborah Harrison; brother-in-law, Rich Harrison both of Rainbow Lake; brother-in-law, Stephen Wojcik and sister-in-law, June Wojcik of Orlando, Fla.; nieces, Sandra Medwick and her two children, Gabby and Gregory of Wappinger Falls, Carolyn and her husband Mathew Scerra of Tewksbury, Mass, Jessie Wojcik of Bedford, N.H.; nephews, Morgan and his wife Sabrina Harrison and their children Gunner and Ryder of Saranac Lake, Dylan Harrison of Rainbow Lake, David Medwick of Wappinger Falls, and Stephen John and Amy Wojcik and their son, Oden John of Missoula, Mont. He is also survived by his favorite uncle, Al Medvec of White Plains and Uncle Steve Medvec of Texas and many cousins and friends.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12, 2013. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 13, at St. Bernard's Church in Saranac Lake, with Msgr. John McAvoy officiating. Burial will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery in Lake Placid. A reception luncheon to follow burial (app. Noon) at the pavilion at Camp Adirondack.
