PLATTSBURGH — Wilfred C. Carter Jr., 79, formerly of Hardscrabble Road, Cadyville, died Sunday, March 30, 2014, at the Clinton County Nursing Home. He was born Sept. 13, 1934, in Dannemora, the son of Wilfred and Madelyn (Turner) Carter Sr.
Wilfred married the former Hildred Rabideau on May 8, 1954, at St. James Church in Cadyville. He enjoyed camping and woodworking in his spare time. Wilfred was a Correction Officer for Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora.
Survivors include his wife, Hildred Carter of Plattsburgh; one son, James Carter of Riverside, R.I.; three daughters, Susan and Jack Benoit of Chazy Lake, Cynthia and Bob MaGee of Etters, Pa., and Nancy Carter of Plattsburgh; five sisters-in-law, Shirley Carter of Cadyville, Judy Carter of Cadyville, Roseanne Carter of Schuyler Falls, Erica Carter of West Plattsburgh, and Charlotte Carter of Brooklyn; two brothers-in-law, Earl Lyman of Saranac, and Casey Hale; seven grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one son, Jerry Carter and six brothers, Michael, David, Bernard, Roger, Partick and Paul Carter; and four sisters, Suzanne Marie Carter, Grace Soulia, Elizabeth Lyman, and Paulette Hale.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, at R.W. Walker Funeral Home, 69 Court Street, Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 12 p.m. Thursday, at St. James Church in Cadyville. Burial will be at a later date in the spring at the parish cemetery.
