CUMBERLAND HEAD — Florence A. Baker, 84, of Cumberland Head Road, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013, at the Fletcher Allen Medical Center in Burlington, Vt.
She was born in Black Brook, N.Y., on Jan. 13, 1929, the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Bombardier) Trombley.
Florence married Richard L. Baker on Nov. 29, 1952 in St. Matthew's Church in Black Brook. Richard passed away on Dec. 28, 1995. In her younger years she worked for the Department of Social Services in Plattsburgh.
Florence will be remembered for her limitless concern for and kindness towards others. She loved being a wife and mother, and she cherished her family above all else. She especially loved to go camping with her family. She loved the house that she raised her family in and the countryside where she herself grew up. Florence truly felt that Lake Champlain was one of the most beautiful places in the world.
Florence loved cooking and canning tomatoes, gardening, and needlework. She also took great pride in sewing handmade stuffed animals which she donated to the St. Mary's of the Lake Bazaar.
Survivors include one son, Daniel Baker of Plattsburgh; five daughters, Cynthia Baker and her wife Patricia Farrell of So. Plainfield, N.J., Mary DelBuono and her husband John of Staten Island, N.Y., Lynnette Dow and her husband Paul of Portsmouth, R.I., Jan Sawyer and her husband Jeffrey of Manlius, N.Y., and Jean Burkholder and her husband Paul of Aurora, Colo.; one brother, Herman Trombley and his wife Patty of Plattsburgh; one sister, Yvonne Bombard of Gansevoort, N.Y.; nine grandchildren, Matthew, Meagan and Emily DelBuono, Morgan Dow, Mallory and Maxx Sawyer, and Zeb, Chloe and Calvin Burkholder; and several nieces and nephews.
Florence was predeceased by her husband and one sister, Agnes Boyd.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home, 69 Court Street, Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday in St. Mary's of the Lake Oratory on Cumberland Head. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
