PLATTSBURGH — Mr. Wayne L. Akey, 74 of Shirley Avenue, Plattsburgh, N.Y., passed away Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, at the CVPH Medical Center with his family by his side. He was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on August 14, 1939, the son of Harold and Viola (Pinkman) Akey.
Wayne was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was well known for his culinary skills, having worked at the Plattsburgh Elks Club, the NCO Club at the Plattsburgh Air Force Base and later at the Knights of Columbus. Wayne was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #125.
He was predeceased by his parents and a brother Richard Akey. Wayne is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary (Boudrieau) of Plattsburgh; his daughters, Lisa Blake and her companion Susan Warren of Plattsburgh, Barbara Roark and her husband Mark of Plattsburgh; four grandchildren, David "Buddy" Blake, Jr., Jessica Martino, Joshua Blake, Bethany "Boo" Roark, Tyler Warren; three great-grandchildren, Kaylee Blake, Ayden and Mia Arreola; one brother, Larry Akey of Utica; two half sisters, Carolyn (Akey) Barber and Veronica Akey; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St., Plattsburgh, N.Y. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at the Brown Funeral Home Chapel. Interment with military honors will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery. Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #125 are asked to meet at 5:45 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home for services.
