MINEVILLE - Edward B. "Tom" Carpenter Jr., 77, of Champlain Drive, Mineville, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Nov. 30, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born at home June 23, 1936, in Mineville, to Lucille (Ryan) and Edward B. "Ted" Carpenter Sr.
Tom was a graduate of Mineville High School. He enlisted in the Marine Corp. and served from 1953-1956. He graduated from Albany Business College. He was employed by the Republic Steel Corporation, D&H Railroad, and for many years was an income tax preparer. He was in the National Guard for many years. He was also a town assessor. He was a member of the Moriah Central School Board for over 20 years. He was a key contributor to improvements made at Linney Field for Moriah football.
He is survived by his children, Michele (Walter) Gilbo, Denise Carpenter, and Scott (Stacia) Carpenter; his siblings, William Carpenter, Eileen "Jo" (Michael) Mydlarz, Richard Carpenter, and Thomas (Lucille) Carpenter; his grandchildren, Keith (Jessica) Gilbo, Steven Gilbo, Jeremy Carpenter, Evan Drew, Casey (Peter) Green, and Kevin Carpenter; his great-grandchildren, Thomas Ryan "TR" Green and Amelia Marie Green, who affectionately called him "TC;" an uncle, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Elizabeth (Betty Ann) Goyette; his son, Thomas Ryan Carpenter; his nephew, Brian T. Carpenter; and several uncles.
Tom enjoyed going to the casino with friends, watching Moriah Football and was an avid golfer and bowler back in the day. He was fortunate to have traveled to Alaska, Spain, Portugal, and Germany.
At Tom's request, there will be no calling hours or services, Burial will be in the spring.
