Edith M. Chase

CHATEAUGAY — Edith M. Chase was born on April 30, 1915, to Roy and Mildred (Hunter) Moore of Chateaugay, N.Y. She attended and graduated from Chateaugay schools.

Edith married Glenn R. Chase of Brainardsville, N.Y. on Aug. 6, 1934. She and her husband owned and operated a dairy farm in Chateaugay until selling it in 1962. Edith also drove a school bus for the Chateaugay School System for several years.

She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the National Grange, as well as being an active member of the United Methodist Church while living in Chateaugay. She also attended the United Church of Christ in Conway, Mass. while living there.

She and her husband moved to Connecticut in 1964 and then moved to Conway, Mass. in late 1966, where they lived and worked for many years. Edith drove school bus for the local grammar school as well as working in the school cafeteria with her good friend, Helen Reed.

After she retired, she had more time for her love of reading, knitting, canning, cooking and doing crossword puzzles, word find and jigsaw puzzles. Edith had a never ending sense of humor and could often be found in local coffee shops in the afternoons with her circle of friends sharing the days news and discussing world affairs. Edith loved to travel when she could. She also loved her family's camp on Chateaugay Lake in Belmont, N.Y. She would vacation there and after retirement, summered there as often as she could.

Edith passed into eternal rest at the Buckley Health Care Center, surrounded by her loving family. She leaves a son, Lee Chase and his wife Maureen (Roskosky) Chase of Conway, Mass.; a daughter, Phyllis M. Chase of Chateaugay and Phoenix, Ariz.; as well as her niece, Alice Green, also of Phoenix. She had three devoted grandchildren, Nancy Chase-Pierce and her husband Robert Pierce of Orange, Mass., Lauren Chase-Blakeslee and her husband Brian Blakeslee and Darrel A. Chase and his wife Cynthia Racicot, all of Conway, She also leaves four great-grandchildren, Megan Blakeslee of Easthampton, Mass., Daniel Blakeslee of Conway, Emily Pierce of Orange, Cameron Chase of Conway and a step great-grandson, Garrett Loomis of Amherst, Mass.

She was predeceased by her husband Glenn Chase in 1991 after 57 years of marriage; and a beloved daughter, Nancy Jean Chase in 1964.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 8, in East Side Cemetery, Chateaugay, with the Rev. Marty Conner officiating. Donations in, Edith's mernoy may be made to the United Methodist Church of Chateaugay, N.Y. Expressions of Sympathy available at www.wrisleyfuneralhome.com.
