WEST CHAZY — Robert E. Gardner, 84, of West Chazy died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, at the St. Albans Health and Rehab Center in St. Albans, Vt.
He was born May 9, 1929, in Altona, the son of Patrick E. and Malvine (Duquette) Gardner.
He served in the U.S. Army in Korea where he was wounded when a mine exploded next to him severely damaging his sight and ability to hear. Bob worked at Georgia Pacific, where he retired after 35 years of service.
He was a member of the American Legion in Chazy, the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Champlain and the Knights of Columbus in Mooers. He loved fishing and mowing his lawn. He truly enjoyed spending time his granddaughter, Mackenzie.
Robert was predeceased by his parents; three brothers, Maynard Gardner, Lee Gardner and Alden Gardner; as well as one sister, Hortense Williamson.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Jan Gardner of West Chazy. They were married Sept. 8, 1956; one son, Timothy R. Gardner and his companion Kasey McKee of West Chazy; one grandson, Timothy E. Gardner and his companion Katie Jubert of Mooers; a great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Gardner and an expected great-grandson, Kolin Gardner; one brother, Lester Gardner of Altona; two sisters, Geraldine Kwetchian of Lyon Mountain and Georgianna Hogle of Mooers; several nieces and nephews; two special friends, Bev and Winston Duprey of Silver Lake and his special cat Jinkins.
A memorial service will be celebrated at 1 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 5, at the Ross Funeral Home in Mooers. Donations in Bob's memory may be made to the Holy Angel's Church and St. Louis of France building fund.
