Frederick L. LaMere "Poppy"

COLONIE — Frederick L. LaMere "Poppy", 74 of Colonie, N.Y., passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2013, at St. Peter's Hospital. He was born in Elizabethtown, N.Y., the son of the late Joseph and Clarissa (Gumlaw) LaMere.

Frederick retired from the State of New York Unemployment Office and the U.S. Air Force. He currently was working for Lisha Kill Middle School as a security guard. Frederick was a member of the Guilderland Elks Club and the Schenectady Moose Lodge. He was an avid bowler and outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Frederick loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Frederick is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Anne (Thompson) LaMere of Colonie; his loving children, Arthur R. (Cindy) Coogan of Witherbee and Stephen M. LaMere of Colonie; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He also leaves behind his brother Larry LaMere; his sisters, Florence VanBarmer, Sally Shell, Violet (Herbert) Clark and Anna LaMere; and his sister-in- laws, Jean (Oliver) Preville, Janet (Joseph) Cavallaro, and Karen (Richard) Espey; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, including his special niece Kelly Espey.

In addition to his parents, Frederick was predeceased by a son, James Joseph Cooga; a brother, Roger LaMere; sister in-law, Elaine LaMere; and by his brother-in-laws, Carl VanBarmer and Percy Butch Shell.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013, at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013 at the funeral home.

Interment will be at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
