Irene M. Crowningshield

---- — PORT KENT — Irene M. Crowningshield, 88, of Crowningshield Lane, Port Kent, died Sunday, August 18, 2013 at Meadowbrook Healthcare in Plattsburgh, following a brief stay of only two months.

Hey gram, we're really going to miss the cup of coffee with you on Sundays. We were told you were born in Port Kent. Since your birthplace was not on your birth certificate, lets say you were born on Trembleau Mountain.

You grew up on Schuyler Island, and had to get to school in Port Kent by row-boat. Nowadays kids have trouble getting 200 feet to the bus stop to catch the bus. Times sure have changed.

You married Floyd Crowningshield, and following his passing in 1977, you decided to get your drivers license so you could get around on your own. You worked various jobs of which Liccardis Restaurant was our favorite because once in awhile you would bring us home pizza as a surprise.

Life blessed you with two wonderful children, Mickey (Carol) and Marilyn; four grandchildren, and four great grandchildren that loved to eat the candy bars that you would leave for them on your front porch. You're also survived by sister, Marge Davis, and many friends from the area.

In addition to your husband; you were predeceased by your parents, Theophine and Katherine (Hodskins) Hamelin; and son-in-law, Bill Sitts.

Things that you loved were going to church, visiting with friends and family, and penny bingo. We always got a kick out of how you would hit the jackpot and bring home a whopping $2.50. Things that you did not enjoy were missing church, not getting picked up quickly enough when you wanted to go somewhere, and lastly mustard. You hated mustard. Once in a while when you turned the other way at the dinner table someone would put a bottle of mustard in front of you and just the sight of it would make you feel sick. Good times indeed.

There will be no public calling hours. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Donations in her memory may be made to St. John's Church in Keeseville.

May Heaven bring you peace, great coffee, and make sure and tell them to hold the mustard.

Arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 124 Clinton Street, Keeseville.
