Raymond Heininger

CONSTABLE — Raymond F. Heininger, 77, of State Route 122, passed away early Saturday June 29, 2013, at his home with his beloved wife and family by his side. Born May 16, 1936, in Homestead, Pa., he was the son of the late Frank and Elizabeth Pernick Heininger. He graduated from Munhall High School in Munhall, Pa.

Raymond served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955 to 1959, and was honorably discharged.

On Nov. 23, 1957, he was married to the former Elizabeth J. Ashline in St. Alexander's Church in Morrisville, N.Y. She survives.

Raymond received his bachelor of science degree in elementary school teaching at SUNY Plattsburgh in 1963; his master of science degree in 1972; and a certificate of advanced study in administration and supervisory service in 1974. He taught grade school in Johnstown, N.Y., from 1963 to 1966 at East State Street School. He moved to Malone in 1966 and taught at the old academy on Webster Street and at G.B. Davis School. He later specialized in remedial math at both G.B. Davis and Bishop Smith schools. Raymond retired in 1996 as a Master Teacher after 33 years of service. He also was a little league baseball coach for many years.

He was instrumental in the formation of the Fr. John McNamara Knights of Columbus in Constable and was its first Grand Knight. He was active in two retired school teachers organizations, the NYSRTA and the NYSUT. He was a Life Member of the Malone Lodge of Elks.

Raymond's first love was teaching. He loved life, people in general, enjoyed gardening, food preservation, cooking, baking, music, and especially dancing the Polka. He was a happy, joyful man; always optimistic and smiling, with good judgment and kindness.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth; children, Lee Anne Lambert of Constable, Donna McNew and her husband William of Eagle River, Alaska, Kimberley Paige and her husband Larry of Trout River, Joseph Heininger and his wife Lupita of Tucson, Ariz., and Jonathan Heininger and his wife Lisa of Fairport, N.Y.; sisters and brother, Elizabeth Jane Okert of North Versailles, Pa., twin brother Robert Heininger and his wife Rosemary of Gibsonia, Pa.; and Shirley Schmidt and her husband Roger of Peabody, Mass.; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 4, at Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday, at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Constable with the Rev. Howard Venette, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Arrangements are with Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Service, Inc. of Malone.
