PLATTSBURGH — Robert B. Sapel Sr., 83, of Beekman Towers, Plattsburgh, N.Y., passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
He was born in Plattsburgh on July 13, 1930, the son of Robert and Tida (Facteau) Sapel.
Bob graduated from Plattsburgh High School in 1950. Soon after he began working for General Motors in Michigan. Bob moved back to Plattsburgh to work at Keystonecase and Johnson Industrial Painting, before owning and operating several North Country convenience stores, retiring in 1986. Bob moved to Venice, Fla. for 9 years where he worked as a part time Butcher before returning to Plattsburgh. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and was a Scout Master in Boy Scout Troop 36.
Bob was predeceased by his parents; his siblings, Iona Sapel and Wayne Sapel.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Bernice Sapel of Plattsburgh; his children, Robert Sapel Jr. and his wife Peg of Delmar, N.Y., William "Bill" Sapel and his wife Stacey of Morrisonville, N.Y., Allison Olsen and her husband John of Cumberland Head, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Michael Sapel, Jessica Sapel, Ryan Sapel, Reid and Derek Olsen; a great-grandson, Isaac Sapel; Jessica and Ryan's mother, Sue Carter of Plattsburgh; a brother, Russell Sapel and his wife Holly of Wash.; and a sister-in-law, Judy Sapel of Wash.; several nieces and nephews also survive him.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.
