ELLENBURG — Russell D. Cook, 87, of Ellenburg, N.Y. died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, at CVPH with his loving family by his side.
Born in Ellenbug, N.Y. on Nov. 14, 1925, the son of George and Mamie (LeClair) Cook.
He served in the US Army, Artillery in Germany from 1945-1946. He served as an apprentice with his uncle, Earl Cook in Cortland, N.Y. Upon return to Ellenburg he became self employed in the plumbing and heating business. He then transitioned to Ellenburg Central School where he was employed as a custodian and retired after 24 years of service.
Russell was an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener. He also enjoyed watching baseball games. His most cherished activity was enjoying time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Eunice (LaFlesh) Cook; daughters, Linda (Cook) Robinson (Earl) and Sandy (Cook) Kaczanowcke (William); four grandchildren, Troy Robinson of Rochester, N.Y., Wendy Robinson-Spence (Jeff) of Chateaugay, N.Y., Christina (Kaczanowcke) Noyes (Jerry) of Eaton Rapids, Mich., Joseph Kaczanowcke (Becky) of Lansing, Mich.; five great-grandchildren, Lena and Laurel Spence, Caylee and Robert Noyes, and Leah Kaczanowcke. He is also survived by his sister, Frances (Cook) Dunn of Ellenburg Center, N.Y.; and brother, Norman Cook of Brasher Falls, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents; three sisters, Evelyn Cook, Lillian (Cook) LaClair, and Ida (Cook) LaFave.
The family respectfully requests no flowers. Calling hours will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, 2013 at Ross Funeral Home in Ellenburg Depot, N.Y. There will a private family service at a later date.
