MOOERS — Grace C. Petteys, 91, formerly of Mooers and Terrace West Way, Plattsburgh, died Sunday, July 13, 2014, at Isabella County Medical Care Facility, Mount Pleasant, Mich. She was born Feb. 7, 1923, in Mooers Forks, the daughter of Lemmie and Mary Ellen (Miller) Bosley. She was the last surviving child of Lemmie and Mary's twelve children.
Grace married Bernard Petteys, July 1, 1950, in Plattsburgh. Together they moved to Utica, where they lived until his passing, Jan. 13, 1996. After his death, she moved to Mooers to live with her sister, Rita Lashway.
Grace decided to become a hairdresser at the age of 47. She went to Cosmetology School, obtained her license and opened her own shop in Utica, which she operated until her retirement in 1985.
She was an avid reader, a great seamstress, and in younger days, enjoyed camping in the summer, and snowmobiling in the winter. She was a member of the Ladies of St. Ann's.
Survivors include her son, Michael Petteys and companion Laura DeGroft of Lake, Mich.; one sister-in-law, Sophie Bosley of Plattsburgh; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, husband, and siblings, she was predeceased by her grandson, Scott M. Petteys.
Calling hours will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 793 Gilbert Road, Mooers. A funeral service will follow at 10 a.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. William G. Reamer, officiating. Committal prayers and burial will follow at St. Ann's Cemetery in Mooers Forks.
