PORT KENT — Marie Lois Rumney, 85, formerly of South Street, Port Kent, died Friday, June 13, 2014, at her current residence, Beekman Towers in Plattsburgh, under the loving care of her family and Hospice of the North Country.
She was born in Peasleeville, Nov. 29, 1928, the daughter of the late Vernon and Martha (Sears) Riley. Marie graduated from Peru High School in 1946.
She married Arthur F. Rumney, Saturday, Nov. 30, 1946. He predeceased her Tuesday, April 29, 2008, following 62 years of marriage. Marie retired from the Grand Union Company located in the Skyway Shopping Center, following many years of dedicated service as head cashier.
She and her husband enjoyed attended the dances at the Redford School with the Fiddlers on Wednesday nights. Marie enjoyed quilting, sewing, and canning vegetables from her husbands large garden.
Survivors include her three children, Tom Rumney and wife Hong, Judy Velie and husband Larry, and Nancy Vincent and husband Mike; grandchildren, Mai Ann (Kevin), Sean (Danielle) Eric (Holli), Jessica, Adam (Bobbi Jo), Bryon, Larry (Candy), and Tina; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Colby, Michael, Austin, and Dallas; brother, Pat (Judy) Riley; sister, Ada (Fred) Atkinson; her best friend, Curtis Plumadore; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband; she was also predeceased by three brothers, Lou, Mike, and Verlon; and two sisters, Ina Durgan, and Lita Durgan.
Calling hours will be held from 10 to noon, Tuesday, June 17, at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A funeral service will follow at noon at the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in the Peasleeville Cemetery.
