PORT HENRY — PLATTSBURGH - Derek A. Johnson, 52, of Pleasant Ridge Road, Plattsburgh, died on Thursday, June 12, 2014, at his residence.
He was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y. on Dec. 19, 1961, the son of Robert E. and Alice E. (Sheehan) Johnson Sr.
Derek graduated from Beekmantown High School in 1981. Following graduation, Derek served our country from 1981 to 1985 in the U.S. Army.
He married the former Mary Beshaw on May 14, 1994, in Plattsburgh. Derek worked at Bombardier in Plattsburgh for several years, assembling train and subway cars. He enjoyed bowling, traveling, going to rock concerts, and animals. Derek's greatest passion was playing his electric guitar.
Survivors include his wife Mary of Plattsburgh; one son, Kyle Johnson of Lancaster, Calif.; two stepsons, Matt Duval and A.J. Duval, both of Plattsburgh; one stepdaughter, Gina Duval of Plattsburgh; his mother, Alice E. Johnson of Plattsburgh; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Karen Johnson of Ballston Spa, N.Y.; one sister, Sandra Pratt of Griffin, Ga.; a step granddaughter, Serenity Grace Duval; five nieces and two nephews. Derek was predeceased by his father; and one brother, Darrell E. Johnson.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 15, at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will follow at 5 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
