ENGLEWOOD, FLA. — John Babcock Hanford Jr., 82, of Englewood, Fla., died May 30, 2014.
He was born June 3, 1931, in Port Washington, Long Island, N.Y.. He was in the ROTC at Trinity College and upon graduation, he trained and served as a B-47 Air Force Bomber Pilot and was stationed at Plattsburgh Air Force Base. Following service in the Air Force, he became a manager of Au Sable Chasm in Keeseville, N.Y. for many years, serving as President of the Adirondack Attractions Association. In the mid-70's, Mr. Hanford and his family moved to Old Forge, N.Y. where he was the owner of a resort business. He was a member of the Kiwanis and served as President multiple times.
Respected and loved by all who knew him, he leaves his grieving family behind. He is survived by his wife Laura; daughters, Hannah, Tammy and her husband Paul, Katherine and son Charles and his wife Lisa; as well as five loving grandchildren.
A private family service was held on Wednesday, June 4, at the Lemon Bay Funeral Home in Englewood, Fla.
