PLATTSBURGH — Viola W. Gordon, 96, of Sailly Avenue, died on Saturday, June 7, 2014, at her residence.
She was born in Richmond, Vt. on Aug. 15, 1917, the daughter of Verne A. and Celia (Morrill) Williams.
She attended school in Richmond Vt. Viola was a Licensed Practical Nurse having gotten her license gained from experience working in the TB Sanitarium in Barre, Vt. during the nurses shortage in World War II. She also worked at the Physicians Hospital in the 50's in the Children's Ward. Later on she did private duty for many years taking care of individuals, even traveling to Florida winters as a caregiver. She was very highly regarded by those she took care of. Viola also worked on the family farm throwing bales with the best of them.
She was a member of the Plattsburgh United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star for 60 years, having held various offices in that organization.
She enjoyed nursing, knitting, needlepoint, reading, gardening, traveling to Florida and cooking for her family.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Price of Niverville, N.Y.; two sons, Sam Gordon and his wife Jolie of Chazy, William F. Gordon of Reno, Nev.; also a sister, Arabella W. Trudeau of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; her grandchildren, Lauralea Ingham, Daryl Hallenbeck, Deanna LaPier, Lynnette Baker, Thomas Price, Wesley Price, Seth Gordon and Cinnamon Gordon; 17 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Frederick G. Thomas; her second husband, Forest Gordon; sisters, Eulee Poland, Eunice Viscovitch; and brother Vernon Williams.
In accordance with her wishes there will be a Memorial Service at 1 p.m. on Saturday July 12, at the United Methodist Church in Plattsburgh. Arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced at a later date with the R.W. Walker Funeral Home, 69 Court St., Plattsburgh.
