AU SABLE FORKS — Marguerite Vanness (Davis) Ward, 98, died peacefully on Monday, April 8, 2013, at Horace Nye Nursing Home, Elizabethtown, N.Y., with her loving family by her side.
Marguerite was born in Jersey City, N.J. on Jan. 26, 1915, the only daughter of the late Eugene and Adeline (Vanness) Davis. She graduated from Closter High School.
She married the late Harry G. Ward on Sept. 12, 1936. They resided in Jay, N.Y. and owned & operated Oak Hill Cabins. She was past President of the Womans Society for the Whiteface Community United Methodist Church. She also was a past Matron of the Lebanon Chapter of the Eastern Star.
She was predeceased by her parents; her loving husband, Harry, on July 26, 1980; two brothers, Eugene Davis II and Newell (Joyce) Davis; also, one grandson, John Darwin Nolan who died in infancy.
She is survived by her children and their spouses. Sons, Harry (Virginia) Ward of Adamstown, Md., Norman "Skip" (Marilyn) Ward of Au Sable Forks, N.Y., George (Diane) Ward
of Seattle, Wash. and daughter Louise (Gene) Nolan of Jay, N.Y. Also survived by 10 grandchildren, Patty (Kent) Taylor of Jay, N.Y., Eric (Kay) Ward of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., Scott
(Cindy) Ward of Frederick, Md., Leslie Hanson of Lake Placid, N.Y., Daryl (Sheree) LaDuke of Ladson, S.C., Stefanie (Justin) Talmadge of Seattle, Wash., Russell (Brenda) Ward of Streamwood, Ill., Kelly (Mike) Schultz of Portland, Ore., Dale Nolan of Jay, N.Y. and Laura (Bill) Campbell of Upper Jay, N.Y.; 16 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandson; two sisters-in-law, Agnes Ward and Dorothea Davis; a special nephew and his wife, Dr. Steven (Linda) Davis of
Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; and several other nieces and nephews.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date and at the convenience of the family.
The family wishes to thank the dedicated staff of the Horace Nye Nursing Home. They had become a second family to Marguerite for the past 4 years. The love they showed her will never be forgotten.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Thwaits-Zaumetzer Funeral Home in Au Sable Forks, N.Y.
